Sonya Rose Atkinson is an actress, poet, and visual artist. Sonya studied fine art and acting, graduating with a BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, before moving to New York City where she continued a professional modeling career. Sonya has since relocated to Los Angeles, California. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA.


Sonya has appeared in various Independent films, TV shows, Short Films and music videos. Most recently she played "Witch" in "Timber the Treasure Dog". As a supporting actress, she has appeared on the History Channel’s "Breaking Vegas", HBO’s "Sex and the City", Comedy Central’s "The Roast of Denis Leary", USA Networks’ "The Maury Povich Show"; NBC (The John Walsh Show, The Healthcast Report Boston), ABC (Good Morning America, Eyewitness News NY/LA), Inside Edition, Fox Sports, WB11 (Morning News, News at Ten), MTV, Time Warner (Streets of New York), NY 1/Metro TV (Subway Q & A), Snoop Dogg’s "Beautiful" @ the 13th Anniversary of Comedy Central, and numerous other projects.

Sonya has worked high profile city events as a Halo Angel body-painted by Tara Meadows in HALO's promotional tour to Vanity Fair, NY Observer, NY Post, Tongue, Black Book, Boxing Magazine, Fader, New Yorker, Blender, People, ABC Studios, Village Voice, Joey Reynolds Show, WNEW FM Studio, Wyclef's Birthday Party, Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge Tour, and Patrick McMullan Birthday Party/for God's Love We Deliver. Sonya also was Anne Darrow from "King Kong" (Walter Kaitz Foundation Party), a Bull Rider (Outdoor Life Network Event), a Las Vegas Showgirl (Casino & Gaming Television), and even in holiday spirit, Santa's helper for NY Knicks and NY Rangers Christmas parties. She also promoted books including “Great Presidential Wit, I Wish I Was in the Book" (Author U.S. Senator Bob Dole) at The Waldorf Towers' Presidential Suite and CD launches (Brandy's "Afrodisiac").

She has taken film classes at The School for Film and Television (currently The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts) in New York City. Sonya also has training in stage combat and firearms.


Sonya has modeled in her hometown of Pittsburgh and several major U.S. cities including Miami before relocating to the fashion capital of the world New York City in 2000, having traveled abroad to Hong Kong for HK Fashion Week. She has been a model for Fashion, Conventions, Tradeshows, Calendar, Catalog, Commercial, Corporate, Fine Art/Figure, Glamour, Hair Model, Lingerie, Print, Spokesmodel, Stock Photography, Swimsuit, and TV/Video/Film.

As a former fashion model, she began her modeling career in well-known local department stores Guess? Store, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kaufmann's, Belk, Boscov's, Hecht's, Dillard's, JCPenny, and Coplin's Boutique wearing designer labels: Guess?, Ellen Tracy, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, JNY, Max Mara, Escada, Ralph Lauren, St. John, Giorgio Armani, Halston, DKNY, Polo Sport, and Liz Sport. Sonya modeled in conventions and tradeshows for various clients of Ladies' Apparel, Accessories, Swimwear, Lingerie, and Beauty including: Tara Grinna Swimwear, OBBI Lingerie, Santa Marinella, Creations Lingerie, Joann Lysiak Jewelry, Earstrings, Hugging Kisses, Moksha Fine Wovens, Redken, Farouk Systems, and Tressallure to name a few.

She's also modeled for fashion companies in Print, Fit, Lingerie, Stock, Website, Catalog, and Fashion Shows: Roberto Cavalli, Brioni, Style, Mchunu Chic, City Lights, Crest Jeans, Periscope Sportswear, House of Style, Hupyee Swimwear, Charity Lingerie, Jianini Fashion, and Erica NY Lingerie. She was a magazine cover girl twice for "Bride to Be" magazine modeling a Stephen Yearick gown and worked several seasons for the New York Bridal Market in St. Pucchi designs, appearing in Manhattan Bride, Brides, and Modern Bride. Sonya kicked off the fashion week at the International Independent Film Festival in New York one season; further having worked with underground designers/wardrobe stylists at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology.

As a Glamour-Fine Art-Figure-Illustration Model, she has walked the red carpet at Superbowl XXXIX as Playboy's official swimsuit model body-painted by Tyson Fountaine's team; also, participated in Miss Hawaiian Tropic International Finals, opening number/performer at the Taj Mahal (Atlantic City). Sonya has worked with photographers Roberto Milazzo/Alex Kroke in the premier issues of Stun! Men's Magazine; worked with photographers Jon Ortner in his upcoming photography book "Gods and Goddess", and Guenter Knop in "Guenter Knop on Women", also exhibited in his world-wide photography collection. She has worked several times with fine portrait artist Keith Mueller in his nature/underwater projects. Sonya has been a book and illustration cover model for romance and science fiction books including "Service of the Sword" (Baen Books, Illustrator David Mattingly) and "All Men are Rogues" (Avon Books). She is represented as a pinup model by the Wireless Developer Agency, distributing her work globally in "The Lady Luck Series". Her pinups have been seen on Maxracks cards (in promoting Tosca Olive Oil, Calabria Water), calendars, posters, prints, merchandise, and apparel online.


As an Artist, Sonya enjoys photography, video, filmmaking, computer art, sketch (drawing), portraiture, mixed-media, and painting. In the Creation/New Creation exhibition in her hometown in Pennsylvania, she won "Best of Show", donating her art to the church, ELCA permanent art collection in Chicago, which travels in the Madonna Collection. She has artwork in public and private art collections throughout the US, Canada, and Germany: And represented as a wireless graphic artist by the Wireless Developer Agency (2005-2015), distributing her work world-wide in the Haut Monde Collection. Sonya has achieved a BFA at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a minor in drawing. Her "I Love NY for It All" was chosen as the "Top 100 films" out of hundreds judged in an I LOVE NY Short Film Competition 2008. She is also found of poetry as well (She read "Birch Tree" and "Tree of Wisdom" at a showing at the PPG Plaza: H.O. Lehman Tree Award). She continues her journey networking with other fellow artists and poets in various circles; also publishing online poetry (including poetry videos) and other literary works.

Her artwork, "Sands Beyond Time" (2012), "The Hope in Me" (2014) along with narrative, were part of Lilly Oncology On Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey art books and national tours, exhibiting in cancer art exhibitions, cancer centers, hospitals, and patient advocacy group events throughout US and Puerto Rico.

Sonya further took part in our nation's first art exhibit on Lyme disease, having suffered with the disease many years herself, [Ticked Off Art (2014), Maple Grove Art Center] and donated her work "Eye Imagine (a World as One)" following to the Minnesota Lyme Association. At the time, she saw double and her dream, of seeing the world as one, has since come true.


Sonya has made travels to different parts of the US (many of the major cities and outer parts) and to the countries of Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Great Britain, Yugoslavia (former), Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Japan, China, and Vietnam.

She enjoys listening to music and inspiring stories, reading books on just about anything … writing poetry, life stories, blogs … keeping a dream journal … taking photos and walks in nature.

In 2011, Sonya was treated for Breast Cancer [BRCA2 positive] at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, Cedars-Sinai/Tower Hematology Oncology Medical Group and St. John Health Center in Los Angeles. She was warned to get checked immediately through a miraculous dream, which ended up saving her life. Sonya is a participant in several cancer programs and studies [Cedars-Sinai's Gilda Radner Hereditary Cancer Program/Novel Markers Trial, Cedars-Sinai's Tissue Bank Study, USC Young Women's Health History Study, Avon/Army of Women (breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer studies)]. She, also, has been a participant in a medical trial headed by Dr. Alan B. Scott in San Francisco's California Pacific Medical Center. After three years of having suffered daily with progressing double vision (Esotropia), her eyesight was eventually restored to normal after the eye trial and the eye surgery.

She also wrote "Marylou's Repair Shop", which was chosen to be included in the sixth volume of Extraordinary Healers: CURE Readers Honor Oncology Nurses [chapter: Life and Laughter] as well as featured in the Spring 2013 of CURE magazine.

Twice, she was featured in Women's Health Magazine - "Surviving Breast Cancer: Living With Cancer".
